Brent & I had talked about getting rid of our carpet for awhile. Bella had torn a spot up right where you walk in the door and it was just starting to look bad all over. We knew that the guy we bought our house from laid the carpet over hardwood and he had told us that they were in good shape under there. He was just trying to sell it and thought carpet would sell better. So he had everything painted (with no drop cloths) and then had obviously cheap carpet laid.
We prefer hardwood and since we knew it was already there, we had been discussing the possibility of having it refinished. But after Brent's shed got blown away, we quit worrying about the carpet and started thinking about getting a new shed.
But the morning before we heard the baby's heartbeat, I was stressing that something was wrong with the baby. Brent didn't want to think about it and wanted to get my mind off of it, so what does he do? He starts ripping up carpet! I couldn't help much because it had my allergies so worked up, but once he was finished we could tell they were in really good shape despite all the paint on them.

| Our living room after the carpet was gone. |
After we went to the doctor that day and heard our baby's heartbeat for the first time, we came home and finished up. We ended up ripping up the carpet in the hall and front bedroom/laundry room as well since they looked so good. Brent made a call to a guy his great uncle recommended for refinishing the floors. He told us he could do it later that week, so we got very lucky!
Then on Monday, our world came to a stop. We had to go to the doctor again due to the excess bleeding I was having, and we found out the baby's heartbeat was gone. Thankfully, they had not started on our hardwood and we were able to relax at home that day. But they had given us a call that they would be there on Tuesday morning to start. So we spent Monday night getting things ready. We had to get everything out of our living/dining area and the other bedroom. So, needless to say, we were very busy! But it kept our minds off of everything, which was probably just what we needed.
So from Tuesday to Sunday night we stayed with my mom and stepdad while the floors were being refinished and drying. We stopped in at some point over the weekend and were so happy with what we found!

| They looked so pretty! |
We were shocked at how well they turned out! We couldn't have had new floors laid that looked so good. Who would cover these up with carpet anyways?
While we were super excited about coming home to the new floors, Bella is not loving it! We have decided to make her stay in the kitchen and our bedroom only when she is inside. She hates being on the hardwood anyways, so it hasn't been very hard to make her stay, but we just feel so bad because she keeps acting like she is in trouble! Brent has even been carrying her to our room at night when we go to bed so she won't scratch the floors up.
