14 Months with Carter

11/28/13-12/27/13

We started Carter's fourteenth month with his second Thanksgiving.  It was a busy weekend visiting family and home with Daddy. Then we put up the Christmas decorations and little man had the hardest month trying not to touch it all!  He is a bit hard-headed, but he gets it honest from both Mommy and Daddy!
What he does when he doesn't want back in the car seat! See...hard headed!
Soon after, he started getting in molars and, as always, ended up with ear infection, once again with no fever. One round of antibiotics didn't kick it so we are back on another & have to go in for an appointment next week with his doctor to be sure it is gone and to discuss the possibility of tubes.

The next weekend, a round of ice/snow came through our area and little man had his first time out in the snow.  Brent was home feeling sick and Carter was still a little sickly from his ear infection, so it was a quick little trip outside, but still really neat to get to show him the magic of snow!  Carter kept acting like he wanted to eat some snow, so I let him put a little in his mouth and he freaked out.  He wasn't a fan of the cold on his lips or on his hands!
That same weekend (December 6th) Carter started walking! He really picked up fast on it.  He had been taking steps here and there then dropping to a crawl before, but out of nowhere, he just decided he was done with crawling and hasn't gone back.  He hasn't taken many tumbles either...I think he had practiced so much before that he is super steady at walking!

Then at the end of the month Carter had his first haircut and we celebrated Carter's second Christmas where he was spoiled rotten of course!

He started saying "all gone", "hi", and "love you" (sometimes!) this month.  He is still mainly saying dada, mama, bite (for eating) and bye bye all the time though.  He is always babbling and trying to repeat what we are saying.  It sounds like he has his own language when he is talking to himself.  He uses his tongue a lot and it sounds kind of like he is saying "tickle tickle" most of the time.  He is also still shaking his head "no" when he doesn't want something.

He loves crawling up the stairs to the bath (with me close behind of course!) and is doing lots of copying what we do like brushing his hair.  He can point out eyes and sometimes mouths.  We are working on that.  At his babysitter's when a kid is leaving they count "1,2,3 bye-bye" and wave and he has really picked up on that this month.

Carter is really adding on the teeth count this month.  He still has the four teeth on top that have been there, but he has added two on bottom, so there are four there as well.  Also there are molars coming in all around...at least four of them! I can't even count them because he won't really let me look or feel very much.  You can see at least part of the molars at this point though.

He is still sleeping really well besides the nights he was up with his ears/teeth.  And he is napping twice a day...the first time around 9AM for a couple of hours and the second around 4PM for usually at least one hour.  It really just depends on what kind of day we are having.

Sending selfies to Daddy at work!
Carter gets a sippy cup of whole milk at wake up and at bedtime, and sometimes at naptime.  I am still warming it up a bit for him.  Then he gets juice in between.  He is eating breakfast, lunch & supper, but lately he has not been eating much for breakfast.  He loves bananas, any kind of bean, mac n cheese, pizza/lasagna/spaghetti, chicken, and sausage.  Really I think he would eat anything.  The past week or so since his molars have been hurting him so bad, he prefers food that is soft and he doesn't have to chew much.

He is wearing size 3 diapers during the day, and size 4 at night.  We are using up the last of the size 3's that we have stocked up and then I will only be buying 4's.  He is in size 12 month or 12-18 month clothes, but I have started washing up some of the 18 month clothes and I think they will work just fine.  He is around 22 1/2 pounds.

Loving his new recliner!
Overall, we have had an amazing month with little guy.  Every month just seems to be more and more fun.  He is learning so much every second and is becoming so independent.  It's amazing to me how much easier going out and about it with him is these days...just grab a few diapers and a sippy cup and you are set!   I love it!

  1. He is such a cutie. From what I've heard tubes really aren't that big a deal. Savanna experienced her first ear infection around Thanksgiving, the antibiotics seemed to kick it. Now we're battling a tiny cold:(
